What good progression in a mobile RPG looks like
Every mobile RPG promises progression, but there's a huge gap between systems that respect you and ones that just want your attention span. After playing dozens of them, I've started noticing what separates the good from the grindy.
The best sign is cheap experimentation. When a game lets you respec your build without punishment, it's telling you it wants you to play, not to fear mistakes. Ashen Crown Saga does this well and it changed how freely I tried new party setups.
The worst sign is progression that only moves when you wait. If the game feels like it's happening whether I'm holding the phone or not, I lose interest fast. Real progression should come from decisions I make, not clocks I stare at.
My rule of thumb: if I can explain why my character got stronger this session, the system is doing its job. If the answer is just 'numbers went up,' I usually move on.
